Anthony Carroll Art
Portraits | Landscapes | Engineered Objects
From my earliest childhood I’ve always been interested in drawing and painting and art generally, but for pragmatic reasons I chose a career in Mechanical Engineering instead. Nevertheless, I continued whenever possible to draw and paint when inspiration struck and time allowed.
Having previously worked with graphite, charcoal and soft pastels, I embarked upon the challenge of painting in watercolour. I’d always lacked the confidence to paint in watercolour and didn’t know what a joy it would be. My technical engineering background drew me naturally towards subjects of this nature; architectural features and engineered objects.
When years of neglect have taken their toll, these things take on an inexplicable beauty of form, texture and patina. It seems to me, the often neglected objects that interest me, have a story to tell. My landscapes similarly are inspired by the feelings or memories they invoke, rather than their obvious aesthetic appeal.
